I originally went to David Johnston at the behest of my wife, who had trained with David previously. I had been training for the past 4 months, and experienced unsatisfactory results, to say the least. I was beginning to get quite frustrated with fitness in general, and was considering cutting out weight training all together, to simply focus on cardio. I had not considered going to a trainer prior to that point, as I had a negative conception of them. I considered them to be “meatheads”: brainless fitness junkies who would simply push you to the point of injury, shout generalized encouragement at you throughout your workout, and intimidate you into doing what they thought was best for you, even if your body thought differently. After the first session with David, I quickly realized that I could not have been more wrong.
It became abundantly clear to me within even the first session that David was extremely committed to his profession and to his clients. He is very knowledgeable about fitness and nutrition, and knows how to customize a workout to an individual’s wants and needs. Before each exercise, he explained in great detail what the exercise would do for the body, but most importantly, WHY it would do so. He would then suggest alternative exercises to keep my workouts fresh, and to provide a more complete workout. He would tweak each workout to my individual needs, and make sure I got the most benefit out of the sessions without being intimidating or pushing me to a dangerous level. My view of fitness dramatically changed for the better during my sessions with David.
The most critical element that I took from my sessions would most certainly be a positive mental attitude. While the sessions themselves are not easy (as growth in any worthwhile aspect of life never is) in a physical sense, David guided me in such a way that I did easily learn the ability to take the mental steps required to reach my goals. I was able to see definite results surprisingly quickly because of this. I am confident now that I will remain steadfast in my dedication to improving my level of fitness, and that confidence is due in very large part to my sessions with David.
Thanks again,
Zachary Ebner
